If there is any one
car that defines "sports car", it has to be the TR3A. And
while most people have no idea exactly what it is, they do
recognize it as some sort of British car. With its cutaway
doors and slicked-back trunk, the 3A just looks like a lot
of fun and it is! Like a lot of Triumphs, there are a lot of
smiles-per-mile in this car.
Again, I search back
to my High School days and remember a TR3A that a friend
of mine, John Hoke had for a brief period of time. The 3A
is a very sensual car, like my other favorite, the Spitfire.
You can really "feel" the road, smell the oil, and prepare
by getting a haircut, because this is a windy car! But then
again, that is part of the charm.
well
part of my dream has come true in that I now own a TR3A.
The story how I got is is knd of neat, too.
We all know these 'friend of a friend' stories
and this one is no exception. My 'co-vivant', Diane,
has a son tha lives in Lancaster, PA. His wife (Diane's
daughter-in-law's father (are you confused yet?!??)
Had thie TR3A. In fact,it was Julie's car while she was in
High School.
Mac, Julie's father,
is also a 'car guy'. One of his on-going projects is a
beautiful 1960 Corvette Convertible. Wel, after moving to
their new house in norhtern Maryland (just over their home state
of Deleware), there was no room for the TR. Thus, ta-da!!
The old 'being in the right place at teh right time' scenario.
Plus the thought of 'keeping it in the family' appealed to
all concerned.
As I said, teh TR3 is a true classic, and this car, while
not either concours or even show condition is a very solid,
realtively rust free car with lots of spare parts. The paint
on it now was a home made job, and the carpeting and upholstery
are both low end kits. The car runs and drives well.
Don't you just love it
when you hear stories like this? :-)
